Our curriculum is designed to meet the needs of all students, with a focus on Project-Based learning. In addition to our primary curriculum, we also use other innovative teaching strategies and other educational materials - all based on the individual needs of our students.
Our 3-step admissions process is streamlined & user-friendly (see below)
We believe parents are an extension of our school community so we encourage them to get involved. Parents can volunteer their time here at the Academy, donate their special gifts and talent, or donate to our Academy Initiatives: Compassion Community Closet and Seed-to-Table - Food Security Program.

We move away from the 'one-size-fits-all' model in favor of a more community learning approach. Our students don’t just pass tests; they master concepts through holistic education. By tailoring the pace to each child’s unique strengths, we ensure a deep, lasting understanding of every subject with individualized learning. While it's great that students know WHAT we're learning; it's even more important to know WHY we're learning it.
Beyond teaching our students new concepts and skills, we focus heavily on cultivating agency and independent thinking. Developing accountability skills encourages students to become a vested partner in their educational journey.

From our "Seed-to-Table" garden lab to student-led community service, education here is active and fosters community learning. We bridge the gap between textbooks and the real world, demonstrating that students can harness their ideas to create meaningful change today. We believe in holistic education that is purposeful, relevant, practical, and connected to real life, with a strong emphasis on individualized learning.

We aren't just a school; we are a resource for your entire family. Through our community learning initiatives, flexible learning options, and holistic education support, we act as an extension of your home to ensure your child thrives academically and emotionally. We understand that it, 'It Takes a Village.' Our commitment to individualized learning allows us to cater to each child's unique needs.
Hello Family & Friends!
Thank you for stopping by to gain a deeper insight into the VISION and MISSION of Leadership Academy of Virginia. My name is Michele Stewart, and I am the proud founder and Director of 'The Academy.'
Long before I entered the classroom as a formal educator, I had always been aware of my calling to enrich the lives of young learners; especially those born into underserved communities. I had always found myself connected to an initiative or worthy cause with the intent to improve the lives of marginalized youth.
Once my own children had set out to pursue their interests and careers, I was able to fully dedicate my time and effort toward graduate school. Less than three years later, that goal had been accomplished and I entered into the classroom as a formal educator. I had big dreams and high hopes of making an even greater impact in the lives of young learners.
Not long after stepping into the profession, I began witnessing a sudden shift in the wheels of education. The vast academic and social/emotional needs of our students were increasing; the number of students in one classroom was consistently increasing, and the lack of qualified educators and looming teacher shortage, maintained a down-spiral. To the detriment of this already maligned scenario, administrators at the District level, kept pushing curriculum and instructional models that were not in the direction to meet the evolving complexity of student academic and social/emotional needs.
Sadly, it's commonplace to hear educators from around the country echo perspectives of a common thread; most agreeing that the state of education is in serious trouble and instead of moving closer to solutions to bridge the gap, we're witnessing the exact opposite. The devastation resulting from the constraints of a one-size-fits-all educational model, led to the loss of autonomy and an inability to personalize instruction to help our students succeed.
At the end of the 2025 school year, I walked away from the public school classroom feeling defeated and broken-hearted. It was the most difficult year to date , knowing so many of my brilliant young learners were moving onward to the next grade, but hadn't grasped even a basic comprehension of foundational building blocks essential to the success of a more complex skill.
Leadership Academy of Virginia was born as a result of that heartbreak.
I knew it was time to take a leap of faith and do something different — something without constraints; something sustainable; something that is designed to meet the needs of today's learners. That leap of faith, along with spiritual guidance, led me to the successful design of a community-driven educational space where young learners can focus on developing their unique abilities and realizing their highest (unrealized) potential.
Here, we don’t just teach academics; we nurture the whole child. By addressing social-emotional development and real-world skills, we develop critical thinkers who lead with empathy.
Every phase of my life has led up to this moment and I am incredibly grateful to rise each day to live in my purpose.
~All The Best,
Michele
